LOCATION: NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA

SALARY: $130,000 – $150,000
Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer located at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. The Systems Engineer will support NASA missions, projects, and technology demonstrations. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for all technical aspects of the project or mission. Working closely with the project managers and technical staff the systems engineer will plan and develop the technical products to ensure project success, meeting the needs, goals and objectives of the customer. The SE will perform various system engineering activities including concept definition, requirements development, tracking measures of performance, risk management, developing and review plans, documentation and contracts.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- Ability to understand project needs, goals and objectives and translate them into technical solutions
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in systems engineering, engineering, or equivalent technical field
- 3- 5 years of experience in Systems Engineers or combination of technical area lead and systems engineer
- Experience as a technical lead with system-level responsibilities
- In-depth familiarity with systems engineering approach, procedures and processes
- Must be flexible in adapting to deadlines, changing schedules, competing priorities, and unpredictable events
- Thorough, detail oriented, and organized, with excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
- Superb verbal and written communication skills
- Familiar with and able to present concepts, data, and recommendations to a diverse audience of project managers, scientists, engineers, and technical staff
- Ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to assign work and manage personnel and tasks
- Self-motivated and independent thinker
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- NASA or industry spaceflight experience highly desired
- Exceptional customer relationship management highly valued
- Understanding of all Mission and Project Phases from Concept to Operations
- Experience with Confluence, JIRA and Box an added benefit
- Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering a bonus

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for technical activities, including overall technical development, work tasking, customer satisfaction, and technical performance tracking and reporting.
- Technical leadership
- Enable cross functional collaboration on diverse team of expertise and skillsets
- Requirements management (develop, allocate, track implementation, control changes)
- Establishing technical processes, procedures, and templates
- Developing a systems engineering and management plan
- Requirements verification and validation
- Concept of operations development, refinement, and traceability to high level objectives and system requirements
- System architecture definition including functional block diagrams and system interfaces
- Interface management (define, document, control)
- Key Performance Parameters (metrics) definition
- Configuration Management
- Document Tree definition
- Develop integration and test plans
- Review technical products for quality, performance, verification and validation
- Review major procurements for requirement inclusion
- Review contractor deliverables for requirements verification
- Risk identification, tracking and mitigation strategies
- Project technical schedule development and maintenance
- Identify, communicate, and resolve issues
- Responsible for monthly, annual, and milestone review technical products and reports
- Interface with Government, contractors, and industry partner staff
- Tech Transfer documentation development (as needed)
- Some travel may be required to support mission and project partners
