Rancho Los Cerritos is a national, state and locally recognized museum and historical site
\n
located in beautiful Long Beach, CA. Our vision is to cultivate an inclusive and sustainable

broader understanding through stewardship of Rancho Los Cerritos’ natural and cultural

history. We teach about the history of the area, archaeology and other topics through
\n
school tours, special events, concerts and other youth and family programs such as bilingual
\n
Storytime.
\n
The Education Assistant will be primarily responsible for supporting Rancho Los Cerritos’
\n
Adelante school tour program. In a secondary capacity, the Education Assistant will assist
\n
with other departmental projects as needed, including staffing and/or preparing materials
\n
for other educational programs.
\n
\n
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
\n
Compensation: $20 per hour
\n
Hours: 24 hours per week
\n
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:00am-4:30pm
\n
Benefits: Paid sick leave and six paid holidays that fall on regularly scheduled workdays
\n
\n
RESPONSIBILITIES
\n
Adelante Program Support
\n
• Communicating with teachers before and after their field trip, ensuring they have all
\n
necessary information, and sending program evaluations;
\n
• Greeting classes as they arrive, coordinating the start of tours, assisting with
\n
timing/logistics during the tours, and wrapping up tours;
\n
• Implementing and recording pre- and post-visit student evaluations;
\n
• Ensuring that all program materials are ready for each day of school tours and
\n
prepare additional materials as necessary;
\n
• Undergoing school docent training and developing a costume and character to be
\n
able to fill in as needed to lead living history school tour components when volunteers
\n
are absent.
\n
Additional Departmental Projects
\n
• Assisting with the development and implementation of house docent training and
\n
garden docent training;
\n
• Supporting the implementation of the Water Matters LB curriculum, including:
\n
communication with teachers and schools, developing and leading activities for
\n
STEAM days, and program evaluation;
\n
• Supporting public programs, including Storytime Bilingue, Holiday Open House, Fiesta
\n
del Rancho, etc.;
\n
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
\n
• Background and/or demonstrated interest in K-12 education.
\n
• Proficient written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
\n
• Good organizational and time management skills.
\n
• Flexibility; can adapt to changing community or team needs.
\n
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
\n
• Ability to interact respectfully with diverse audiences.
\n
• Creative problem-solving skills; can resolve program issues and problems.
\n
• Daytime weekday shifts on site will be required on a regular basis; some weekend
\n
shifts and/or evening shifts on site may be requested (with advance notice).
\n
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
\n
