Fabrication Welder
Job Description
This role is a day-shift fabrication welder position based in Costa Mesa, CA, supporting a large valve manufacturing operation. Working under general supervision, you perform precision welding using MIG, TIG, and ARC equipment to close tolerances, following established fabrication shop procedures and plant specifications. You interpret blueprints and production drawings, operate a variety of metalworking machinery, and carry out related fabrication and repair tasks to support the production of valves in various sizes.
Responsibilities
- Operate Heliarc, ARC, and MIG welding machines in accordance with fabrication shop procedures and plant specifications.
- Perform precision welding using MIG, TIG, and ARC methods, working to close tolerances and certifying work when requested.
- Follow blueprints, production drawings, production procedures, and written instructions to complete welding and fabrication tasks accurately.
- Confer with representatives from various departments to verify engineering plans, drawings, and specifications before and during fabrication.
- Perform hand burning and gas welding operations as required for production and repair work.
- Repair welds and structural welds to meet quality and safety standards.
- Set up, operate, and adjust related production equipment as needed, including hand brake, sheet metal shears, grinders, lathes, saw cutters, and hand tools.
- Operate a drill press occasionally, following instruction and guidance from a supervisor.
- Assist with basic drilling and other assigned shop tasks related to fabrication and assembly.
- Clean the shop area regularly and maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in safe and orderly condition.
- Support general fabrication and machine operating activities involved in producing valve components and assemblies.
Essential Skills
- Ability to operate all common types of welding machines, including MIG, TIG, ARC, and Heliarc equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of all phases of welding, including MIG, TIG, and ARC welding methods and processes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, layouts, fittings, production drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Ability to follow production procedures and instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Skill in performing hand burning and gas welding for fabrication and repair work.
- Capability to repair welds and structural welds to meet required quality standards.
- Competence in setting up, operating, and adjusting related production equipment such as lathes, brakes, shears, saw cutters, grinders, and drill presses.
- Ability to work under general supervision while maintaining consistent productivity and quality.
- Strong attention to safety and cleanliness in maintaining work areas and equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with fabrication and machine operating in a production or fabrication shop environment.
- Comfort working with valves or similar industrial components of varying sizes.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple departments to clarify engineering and production requirements.
- Willingness to perform a weld test to demonstrate proficiency and support pay determination.
- Flexibility to perform related duties as assigned to support overall shop operations.

Work Environment
This position is based in a valve manufacturing facility in Costa Mesa, CA, operating on a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The shop produces valves for various industries, ranging in size from approximately softball-sized units to components comparable to a large engine, creating a diverse and dynamic fabrication environment. You work in a fabrication shop setting with welding machines such as MIG, TIG, ARC, and Heliarc, as well as related equipment including hand brakes, sheet metal shears, grinders, lathes, saw cutters, drill presses, and standard hand tools. The work is hands-on and industrial, with an emphasis on safety, proper machine operation, and maintaining clean and organized work areas. Overtime may be available depending on production needs.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
