Direct Hire We are actively seeking an Accounting Operations Manager to join a privately held, family-owned distribution organization. This is an exceptional opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys owning the monthly close process, strengthening accounting operations, improving financial reporting, and partnering closely with leadership to drive business performance.
To Be Successful in This Role, You'll Bring

  • REQUIRED: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing operational and leadership responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience independently owning or substantially leading monthly close activities, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash application, payment processing, and accounting controls.
  • Commercial credit and collections experience, including customer credit reviews, credit limits, account holds, aging analysis, bad debt exposure, and collection escalation activities.
  • Experience supervising accounting personnel and coordinating accounting responsibilities across multiple locations.
  • Background in wholesale distribution, industrial supply, building materials, manufacturing, construction supply, or another inventory-intensive business environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, valuation, inventory-to-general-ledger reconciliation, and operational financial reporting.
  • Experience working with ERP-based accounting systems; Epicor Eclipse experience is preferred but not required.
  • QuickBooks experience is preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
  • CPA or CMA certification is beneficial but not required.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Lead centralized accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash application, payment processing, credit administration, account reconciliations, and general ledger activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance the Epicor Eclipse general ledger structure and related accounting processes.
  • Own the monthly close process while coordinating year-end accounting, tax, and financial statement activities with the company's outside CPA firm.
  • Review journal entries, accruals, subledger reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and explain internal profit and loss statements, balance sheets, branch performance reports, working capital metrics, and significant financial variances.
  • Evaluate customer creditworthiness, establish credit limits, authorize account holds, and oversee commercial credit and collection activities.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging, collection effectiveness, customer disputes, bad debt exposure, and overall credit risk.
  • Oversee construction-related credit processes, including preliminary notices, mechanics liens, and lien releases when applicable.
  • Support annual budgeting, cash forecasting, branch profitability reporting, and budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Partner with purchasing, inventory, and operations leadership to ensure inventory activity is accurately valued, reconciled, and reflected within the general ledger.
  • Strengthen internal controls related to payments, positive pay, vendor maintenance, refunds, customer credits, journal entries, and banking access.
  • Evaluate accounting workflows, documentation, and ERP functionality to improve efficiency, reporting capabilities, scalability, and accuracy.
  • Coordinate activities with the company's outside CPA firm, tax professionals, and other external financial advisors.
  • Directly supervise the A/R and Credit Clerk, A/P Clerk, and Accounting Support Clerk.
  • Provide functional accounting guidance and standardized procedures to branch administrators across multiple company locations.
  • Develop documented procedures, backup coverage plans, and cross-training initiatives to reduce operational risk and key-person dependency.
  • Remain actively involved in reconciliations, accounting exceptions, close activities, credit decisions, and continuous process improvement efforts.
