Job Description
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Supervisor to oversee daily procurement activities and manage buyer operations within our manufacturing facility. In this role, you will lead the strategic sourcing of direct materials (raw metal, electronic components, hardware) and indirect MRO supplies, manage vendor relationships, optimize inventory replenishment, and lead continuous cost-reduction initiatives to keep production lines running without interruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Management: Supervise, train, and evaluate a team of buyers and procurement specialists. Assign tasks, oversee order placement, and manage performance metrics.
- Direct & Indirect Procurement: Oversee purchase orders for raw materials, components, tooling, MRO, and capital equipment to support master production schedules (MPS).
- Vendor & Supplier Management: Evaluate vendor performance across delivery precision, pricing, lead time accuracy, and quality (OTIF metrics). Negotiate terms, master service agreements (MSAs), and lead-time reductions.
- Material Planning & Inventory Control: Collaborate with Production Control and Operations to ensure raw material availability via MRP/ERP systems while minimizing holding costs and safety stock excesses.
- Cost Optimization & Strategic Sourcing: Identify alternative sources of supply, assess supply chain risks, negotiate volume discounts, and drive value-engineering cost-saving projects.
- Compliance & Dispute Resolution: Manage vendor non-conformance issues, returns, and debit memos in tandem with Quality Assurance. Ensure strict compliance with corporate guidelines, ISO standards, and safety norms.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or related field (or equivalent 6+ years combined experience).
- 3–5 years of progressive procurement experience in a discrete or process manufacturing environment, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP/MRP enterprise systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Infor, or similar) and advanced MS Excel/data analytics.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing supply chain mechanics: lead-times, bill of materials (BOM), safety stock modeling, and vendor development.
- Proven track record in supplier contract negotiation, vendor risk mitigation, and purchasing ethics.
- APICS/CPIM or CSCP certification is highly preferred.
