Job Description

Senior MEP Project Manager/Project Executive

Sacramento, California | Full-time, on-site | Relocation assistance available

$160,000-$200,000 + base salary, depending on experience + annual bonus

ParkerBeth Search is confidentially recruiting a Project Executive for a self-performing mechanical contractor in Sacramento. You will work directly with the Mechanical Division Manager as #2 in the division, lead project teams, and oversee the financial and operational performance of multiple mechanical construction project teams.

This opportunity is open to current Project Executives and experienced Senior Project Managers, Group Project Managers, or mechanical operations leaders ready to take on broader responsibility. You do not need to hold the Project Executive title today.

Experience working for a mechanical contractor that installs HVAC, piping, or plumbing systems with its own field crews is required. Candidates throughout the U.S. are welcome, and the company will help with relocation to Sacramento.

Why Consider This Role

  • Serve as the second-in-command within the Mechanical Division, working directly with the Division Manager.
  • Expand your responsibility across project performance, team development, client relationships, and division planning.
  • Work with in-house mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fabrication, and prefabrication capabilities.
  • Help develop Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Engineers.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee multiple mechanical projects from preconstruction and staffing through execution, closeout, and performance reviews.
  • Review budgets, cost forecasts, revenue, labor productivity, and gross profit; address issues early and lead corrective action.
  • Work with project and field leaders on crew needs, installation schedules, prefabrication, and project risks.
  • Lead and mentor project management teams, set expectations, and support hiring and career development.
  • Review contracts and subcontracts, manage change-order strategy, and help resolve disputes.
  • Maintain relationships with owners and general contractors; support proposals, presentations, and repeat business.
  • Improve project reporting, scheduling, and cost controls, and help the Division Manager plan for growth.

What You'll Bring

  • 10+ years of construction experience, including substantial experience with a self-performing mechanical contractor.
  • Experience delivering complex mechanical projects in commercial, industrial, healthcare, life-science, technology, or mission-critical settings.
  • Direct responsibility for project budgets, forecasts, self-performed labor costs, productivity, and profitability.
  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring others, with readiness to oversee multiple Project Managers.
  • Strong contract, change-order, risk-management, and client-communication skills.
  • A practical leadership style and willingness to stay involved in project details and jobsite issues.

Prefabrication, virtual design and construction, business development, and Procore, Bluebeam, or equivalent systems experience are helpful. Northern California or Reno market experience is a plus; candidates from other markets are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $160,000-$200,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus annual bonus plan eligibility.
  • Relocation assistance, car allowance, and fuel card.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, including employee-only coverage at no cost after eligibility.
  • 401(k) with a current 3% company contribution.
  • Paid time off, paid holidays, life insurance, and additional voluntary benefits.
  • Training and development, plus an onsite gym and kitchen.

Location & Travel

The role is based at the Sacramento Mechanical Office, with approximately 80% office work and 20% field work. Regional project visits may include Northern and Central California and the Reno area, with occasional travel elsewhere.

*Candidates relocating from another state should be prepared to work on site in Sacramento. Relocation assistance details will be discussed during the hiring process.*
