Position Summary
As the Produce Department Lead, you will oversee the daily operations of our Produce Department, ensuring that our customers are greeted with fresh, high-quality, and well-stocked displays. This role requires early morning shifts, typically starting at 6:30 AM or 7:00 AM and ending around 2:30 PM, with a flexible schedule based on store needs, including weekends. You’ll play a key role in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and efficiency while working independently in a hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day duties will include receiving and inspecting produce deliveries, stocking and maintaining attractive displays, and ensuring all products meet quality standards. You’ll be responsible for checking expiration dates, following FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation procedures, and minimizing shrink and waste. Keeping the Produce Department, backroom, and walk-in cooler clean and organized will be a top priority. Additionally, you’ll maintain accurate pricing and signage, assist with inventory organization, and step in as a backup cashier when needed.
Required Qualifications
We’re looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Produce Department or grocery store, preferably handling fresh produce.
- Strong knowledge of produce handling, quality control, FIFO rotation, and food safety.
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
- High standards for cleanliness, sanitation, and organization.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the department.
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work in a refrigerated walk-in cooler for extended periods (with or without reasonable accommodation).
Additional Skills (Preferred)
- Experience operating an electric pallet jack is strongly preferred.
- Forklift experience is a major advantage (training and authorization required).
Compensation
This position offers competitive pay of $17.50–$19 per hour, based on experience.
