Job Description

Landscape & Construction Foreman

Oak River Landscaping | Petaluma, CA (serving Sonoma & Marin County)

Full-time, Year-Round | $30-35/hour, depending on experience

About Us

Oak River Landscaping is a family-owned, locally operated landscape and site improvement company based in Petaluma, CA (CSLB #1034137, C-27), proudly serving residential and commercial clients throughout Sonoma and Marin County. We specialize in site improvement, drainage and grading, excavation, irrigation, and landscape maintenance — and we're known for being a trustworthy, local name our clients can count on.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced Foreman to lead installation crews on landscape construction projects across Sonoma and Marin County. This is a hands-on leadership role — you'll be on-site every day, running the job, directing the crew, and working alongside them.

Responsibilities

- Lead and supervise the installation crew on residential and commercial landscape construction projects

- Read and execute site plans, set string lines, and establish accurate elevations and grades for construction and drainage work

- Perform and oversee irrigation installation and repair, concrete work, retaining wall construction, paver installation, carpentry (fencing, decking, framing, form work), and excavation/grading

- Install and troubleshoot drainage systems, ensuring proper slope and water flow

- Use hand and power tools (hand saws, levels, laser levels/transits, and similar) to execute precise, accurate work

- Take accurate field measurements and lay out projects to match plans and specs

- Safely operate heavy equipment (skid steer, mini excavator, and similar)

- Coordinate materials, scheduling, and crew assignments to keep jobs on time and on budget

- Communicate daily with the Project Manager on job progress, issues, and material needs

- Keep the job site safe, organized, and productive

- Train and mentor crew members, upholding Oak River's standards for craftsmanship and professionalism

Qualifications

- 5+ years of hands-on experience in landscape/construction, with proven ability to independently handle irrigation, concrete, retaining walls, pavers, carpentry, excavation, and grading

- Skilled with hand tools (including hand saws) and layout tools — string lines, levels, and measuring for accurate grade and elevation work

- Strong understanding of drainage principles and installation

- Solid general construction fundamentals — measuring, layout, and building to plan

- Prior leadership experience — comfortable running a crew and owning a job site from start to finish

- Experience safely operating heavy equipment

- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required to drive company trucks/trailers)

- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and pride in quality craftsmanship

- Ability to read and interpret site plans

- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

What We Offer

- Competitive pay: $30-35/hour, depending on experience

- Stable, full-time, year-round work with a growing local company

- Real room to grow — Oak River is expanding, and strong performers have a genuine path into bigger leadership roles as we build out our team

- A family-owned company culture that values quality, integrity, and the people who do the work

\nCompany Description

Oak River Landscaping was founded in 2012 by a crew that had spent years watching the same pattern repeat: landscapers who showed up for the install and disappeared before the second season. Properties that looked great in photos and fell apart in real life. Clients who had to chase down their contractor just to get a call back.

We started Oak River because we believed it didn't have to be that way. The North Bay has some of the most distinctive microclimates, soils, and growing conditions in the country. The work here isn't generic — it shouldn't be treated that way.

We've kept our crew deliberately small. We take on new clients carefully. We stay on properties long enough to actually understand them — what works in April, what fails by August, what the drainage does in a wet February. That kind of knowledge doesn't come from a satellite photo. It comes from showing up, year after year.
