About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Technical Editor & Writer – Product Support to support the development, editing, validation, and publication of complex aerospace and defense technical documentation. The successful candidate will create and maintain Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), maintenance manuals, operational procedures, and technical publications used by military and defense personnel.
This position requires strong experience with S1000D, Arbortext, XML/SGML authoring, military technical documentation standards, and collaboration with engineering and product development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, edit, rewrite, and maintain technical manuals and product support documentation.
- Author and manage IETM data modules utilizing S1000D/Spec1000D standards.
- Create maintenance manuals, operational manuals, troubleshooting guides, repair procedures, and fault isolation documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers, subject matter experts, and product developers to gather technical information.
- Interpret technical specifications, blueprints, engineering drawings, and system documentation.
- Perform content quality reviews and ensure compliance with military documentation standards.
- Support preparation and review of illustrations, diagrams, charts, and technical graphics.
- Utilize Arbortext, SGML/XML authoring tools, and common source databases for content development.
- Validate technical publications using IETM viewers such as SpecView.
- Participate in customer validation and verification events and support field documentation reviews.
- Travel to customer locations as required for verification activities.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, OR
- Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, OR
- PhD with 1+ year of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with IETM data module authoring and S1000D/Spec1000D documentation standards.
- Experience authoring technical publications using:

- Experience supporting military aviation maintenance documentation.
