About KaufmanIT
KaufmanIT, LLC, founded in 2010, is a growing IT services company located in Irvine, California. We provide reliable technology support and strategic guidance to clients across a variety of industries, including fashion, engineering, legal, financial, nonprofit, and professional services.
We take a methodical approach to technology and focus on understanding each client's business, technology environment, risks, and long-term goals. Our goal is to help our clients improve productivity, security, reliability, and efficiency through thoughtful technology solutions and exceptional service.
About the Role
KaufmanIT is seeking an experienced IT professional to join our team as a Technical Account Manager / vCIO. This is a full-time, in-person position in our Irvine office and is not a remote position.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical foundation, approximately an L2 support level or above, who also excels at working with people.
You do not need to currently hold a vCIO title.
We are especially interested in candidates who have worked in an MSP environment and understand the unique demands of supporting multiple clients, environments, priorities, and technology stacks at the same time.
The right person will be able to understand a client's technical environment, build strong relationships, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, identify technology needs and risks, and help translate those needs into actionable technology plans.
This position provides an opportunity for an experienced technical professional to move into a more strategic and client-facing role while remaining connected to technology and our clients' environments.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a trusted technology advisor and primary strategic technology contact for assigned clients.
- Build strong relationships with client leadership, employees, and internal KaufmanIT teams.
- Learn and understand each client's business operations, technical environment, goals, risks, and priorities.
- Conduct regular client meetings and Technology Business Reviews (TBRs).
- Review client environments and identify technology needs, security concerns, lifecycle issues, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Work with internal technical teams to develop and maintain technology roadmaps aligned with client business goals.
- Help develop annual IT budgets and technology forecasts, including hardware lifecycle planning, software licensing, cloud services, cybersecurity initiatives, and upcoming projects.
- Translate technical issues and recommendations into clear business language that clients can understand.
- Identify potential technology projects and collaborate with the Project Team to develop project scopes, budgets, and implementation plans.
- Coordinate successful onboarding of new clients and help ensure technical information, systems, and documentation are complete before handoff to the service team.
- Maintain accurate client documentation and ensure recommendations, projects, and commitments are followed through to completion.
- Help clients understand cybersecurity, business continuity, disaster recovery, and technology risks.
- Remain technically engaged and assist with troubleshooting, technical reviews, or project work when appropriate.
- Coordinate with service delivery and project teams to ensure client needs are addressed and expectations are met.
- Identify opportunities to improve client satisfaction and strengthen long-term client relationships.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of hands-on IT support, systems administration, systems engineering, or comparable technical experience.
- Technical knowledge consistent with an L2 support level or above.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to evaluate technical issues beyond basic help desk support.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows environments, networking, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, backup/business continuity, and general business IT infrastructure.
- Ability to understand how technology affects business operations—not just how to resolve a technical issue.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating with everyone from end users and technicians to business owners and executive leadership.
- Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts and recommendations clearly to non-technical clients.
- Strong organization, documentation, follow-through, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain ownership of multiple client needs simultaneously.
- Professional, dependable, curious, and comfortable taking initiative.
- Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and ability to travel to client locations as needed.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Irvine, California.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Managed Service Provider (MSP) experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting multiple client environments simultaneously.
- Experience as an L2/L3 Technician, Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, Technical Account Manager, IT Consultant, or similar role.
- Previous vCIO, Technical Account Management, or client-facing technology consulting experience is a plus, but is not required.
- Experience with ConnectWise or another PSA/ticketing platform.
- Experience with NinjaOne or another RMM platform.
- Experience with network security, backup systems, email security, compliance, and cybersecurity.
- Experience participating in client meetings, TBRs/QBRs, technology planning, budgeting, or project scoping.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Technology Management, Business, or a related field is a plus; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Who You'll Be
The right person for this role genuinely enjoys both technology and people.
You can troubleshoot a technical problem, but you can also sit across the table from a business owner and have a productive conversation about what technology means for their business.
You're personable and approachable, ask good questions, communicate clearly, and don't overwhelm non-technical clients with unnecessary jargon. You take ownership, follow through on commitments, stay organized, and enjoy developing long-term client relationships.
If you're an experienced technical professional who is ready to move beyond primarily reactive support and into a more strategic, client-facing technology role, we'd like to hear from you.
