Job Title: Fire Sprinkler Fitter Journeyman

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Fitter Journeyman to support commercial and industrial projects throughout Kern County and surrounding areas. In this role, you install, modify, inspect, test, and repair fire sprinkler systems while maintaining strict adherence to NFPA standards, CAL FIRE OSFM requirements, OSHA regulations, and local codes. You work closely with project teams to deliver safe, reliable fire protection systems on schedule and to a high standard of quality.

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, and repair wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge fire sprinkler systems on commercial and industrial projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan and execute sprinkler system installations.
  • Lay out, cut, thread, groove, and assemble sprinkler piping systems using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Install hangers, supports, valves, sprinkler heads, and related fire protection components according to design and code requirements.
  • Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and inspections to verify proper operation and compliance.
  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers, foremen, and other trades to ensure project timelines and milestones are met.
  • Maintain full compliance with OSHA regulations, safety procedures, NFPA standards, OSFM requirements, and company policies.
  • Complete required documentation and reports accurately, including inspection records, test results, and installation logs.
  • Conduct quality inspections on fire sprinkler and related low-voltage fire alarm systems as needed to support project delivery.
  • Support installation and integration of fire alarm and low-voltage systems where applicable, ensuring alignment with fire sprinkler installations.
  • Safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles required for installation, service, and inspection work across multiple job sites.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented culture by communicating effectively, supporting coworkers, and promoting safety and quality workmanship on every project.

Essential Skills

  • Current California State Fire Marshal (CAL FIRE OSFM) Fire Sprinkler Fitter Certification.
  • Journeyman-level experience installing and servicing fire sprinkler systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA codes and fire protection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with grooved, threaded, and welded pipe systems.
  • Proficiency in laying out, cutting, threading, grooving, and assembling fire sprinkler piping.
  • Experience installing hangers, supports, valves, sprinkler heads, and related components.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations and safe work practices in construction environments.
  • Valid California drivers license and reliable transportation to travel between job sites.
  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform moderate physical activity, including climbing ladders and navigating job sites.
  • Ability to work effectively in various indoor and outdoor environments on commercial and industrial projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification.
  • Experience working on commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, or energy-related projects.
  • Experience in backflow prevention, inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems.
  • Experience with fire alarm systems, low-voltage fire alarm installation, and integration with fire sprinkler systems.
  • Exposure to security and quality inspection practices within construction and fire protection settings.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with project managers, foremen, and other trades.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment with a focus on safety and high-quality workmanship.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role working across commercial and industrial job sites in Kern County and surrounding areas. You work in a mix of indoor and outdoor environments and regularly move between active construction sites and existing facilities. The role involves moderate physical activity, including climbing ladders, lifting equipment and materials over 50 lbs, and navigating uneven surfaces and multi-level job sites. You use standard construction tools and equipment related to fire sprinkler installation, low-voltage fire alarm work, and inspection and testing activities. The culture is team-oriented with a strong emphasis on safety, adherence to NFPA and OSFM standards, and high-quality workmanship, with work scheduled according to project needs and occasional overtime opportunities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bakersfield, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
