Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience teaching students with blindness or low vision in school settings
- Strong knowledge of braille literacy, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility techniques
- Ability to assess and adapt curriculum materials to meet specific student needs
- Compassionate, resourceful, and comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
- Provide direct instruction in braille, use of assistive technology, and adaptive skills
- Modify classroom materials to ensure accessibility across the curriculum
- Consult with general education teachers to promote inclusive learning environments
- Assist with orientation and mobility training, fostering independence
- Maintain detailed records and progress reports in accordance with school and state requirements
- Participate in IEP meetings and ongoing professional development
