Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience teaching students with blindness or low vision in school settings
  • Strong knowledge of braille literacy, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility techniques
  • Ability to assess and adapt curriculum materials to meet specific student needs
  • Compassionate, resourceful, and comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
  • Provide direct instruction in braille, use of assistive technology, and adaptive skills
  • Modify classroom materials to ensure accessibility across the curriculum
  • Consult with general education teachers to promote inclusive learning environments
  • Assist with orientation and mobility training, fostering independence
  • Maintain detailed records and progress reports in accordance with school and state requirements
  • Participate in IEP meetings and ongoing professional development
