HR & Safety Manager

Location: Sacramento, CA (onsite)

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Compensation: $80,000 to $100,000 annually, based on experience

Schedule: Full-time, onsite

Overview

We are partnering with our client, a growing Sacramento-based food manufacturer supplying retail and foodservice customers nationwide, on their search for an HR & Safety Manager. Reporting to the CFO, this person will lead HR for production and office teams, covering recruiting through offboarding, benefits, and employee relations, and will own workplace safety, from the Injury and Illness Prevention Program through incident investigation and workers' comp. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable on the production floor and in the office, and can bring structure to a growing HR and safety function. 100% onsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the HR function as an individual contributor: policy, compliance with CA/federal labor law, workforce planning, and HR metrics/reporting to the CFO.
  • Run full-cycle recruiting, onboarding (including I-9/E-Verify), and offboarding for production and office roles.
  • Administer benefits, HRIS, timeclock, and PTO/leave tracking; serve as the go-to on employee relations and conflict resolution.
  • Lead performance reviews and engagement/retention programs suited to a manufacturing workforce.
  • Build and run training programs, including HR/people management training for supervisors, safety orientation and refreshers, and Food Safety (BRC/HACCP) compliance training; chair the safety committee.
  • Own the IIPP and Cal/OSHA recordkeeping (300/300A/301 logs); lead incident investigations and manage workers' comp claims through resolution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in HR, Business, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered); 5+ years progressive HR experience, including 2+ in an HR management role.
  • Manufacturing experience required; food manufacturing or CPG strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CA employment law and I-9/E-Verify; HRIS/benefits platform experience.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry and First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certifications required; SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable spending regular time on the production floor.
