Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Equipment Operator to join a growing industrial composting operation in Bakersfield, CA. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment including loaders, dozers, excavators, and skid steers while supporting daily facility operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment in construction, industrial, agricultural, recycling, waste, or similar environments and be comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced, physically demanding setting.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment including front-end loaders, skid steers, excavators, dozers, and similar machinery.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections.
- Conduct routine maintenance and basic repairs on heavy equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report maintenance concerns.
- Follow all facility safety policies, environmental regulations, and operating procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Support general site operations and labor activities as needed.
- Complete inspection logs and operational documentation.
- Report accidents, incidents, and safety concerns immediately.
- Interact professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
- Experience operating loaders, front-end loaders, excavators, dozers, and skid steers.
- Knowledge of equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices.
- Ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to perform physical labor when required.
- Strong attendance and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating Caterpillar 966, 972, or 980 loaders.
- Experience in composting, waste, recycling, construction, agriculture, or industrial operations.
- GPS equipment experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Mechanical aptitude and preventive maintenance experience.

Work Environment
This position is based at a large composting facility in Bakersfield. Employees should be comfortable working in a dirty, dusty, muddy, and odor-intensive industrial environment. Work is performed outdoors year-round and requires working around heavy equipment, moving machinery, and industrial operations.
Required PPE includes steel-toe work boots and other safety equipment provided or required by the facility.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.96 - $28.96/hr.
