Job Description

The Material Handler plays a key role in supporting manufacturing operations by accurately receiving, storing, and distributing materials in a fast-paced warehouse environment. This position focuses on shipping and receiving activities, inventory control, and timely delivery of parts to internal teams, using an ERP system and standard warehouse equipment to ensure materials are handled safely, efficiently, and with a high level of accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming packages and shipments from carriers such as UPS, FedEx, Amazon, and palletized deliveries.
• Break down pallets, remove packaging, and organize materials for proper storage.
• Unpack parts, label them accurately, and store them in designated inventory locations.
• Use carts and other warehouse equipment to move materials throughout the facility.
• Perform regular cycle counts once or twice per week to maintain accurate inventory records.
• Communicate with internal partners via email and Outlook regarding material status, discrepancies, and needs.
• Use an ERP system (NetSuite) to enter data, track inventory, and process material movements.
• Support the manufacturing team in a Kanban environment by fulfilling pick lists and material requests.
• Pick, package, and label materials according to manufacturing requirements and deliver them to production areas.
• Treat manufacturing and internal departments as customers and provide responsive, service-oriented support.
• Handle interdepartmental transfers of materials and ensure accurate documentation of movements.
• Follow shipping and receiving procedures, including handling materials that require dry ice or cold room storage when applicable.
• Operate basic warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks, for safe and efficient material handling.
• Assist with inventory audits, which may occasionally occur on weekends.
• Maintain a high level of accuracy in counting, labeling, and data entry to minimize errors.
• Report issues or items that are out of place and communicate proactively about discrepancies.
• Demonstrate flexibility by taking on new tasks and responsibilities as operational needs evolve.
• Ask for additional tasks when work is completed to support the team and maintain productivity.
• Adhere to all safety procedures while working in standard and cold storage areas.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving duties, including handling parcels and palletized shipments.
• Strong inventory control skills, including cycle counting and maintaining accurate stock records.
• Ability to work with an ERP system, preferably NetSuite, for data entry and inventory management.
• Proficiency with email communication tools such as Outlook for coordinating with internal partners.
• Ability to use basic warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks and carts, for material handling.
• Comfort with counting large volumes of parts and working with numbers accurately.
• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in labeling, data entry, and documentation.
• Reliability and strong attendance, consistently showing up on time and ready to work.
• Effective communication skills to report issues and collaborate with manufacturing and other departments.
• Ability to work in a Kanban environment and follow pick lists and material requests.
• Capability to perform shipping and receiving tasks that may involve dry ice and cold room operations.
• Willingness and physical ability to work overtime between 12 hours per day when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with cold chain operations or working in cold storage environments is a plus.
• Background in warehouse operations, including receiving pallets and general warehouse tasks.
• Comfort working in a small team environment and contributing to a collaborative culture.
• Flexibility to take on tasks that may fall outside the initial job description as business needs change.
• Diligent work habits, with a focus on minimizing errors and maintaining high-quality standards.
• Proactive mindset, including asking for additional tasks when current work is completed.
• Ability to participate in periodic inventory audits, including occasional weekend work.

Work Environment

The role is based in a warehouse and manufacturing support environment that includes both standard storage areas and cold storage locations at approximately minus 20 degrees. The typical work schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with regular overtime of 12 hours per day as needed, not exceeding 10 hours per day. Weekend work is not routine but may occur for inventory audits, including currently mandatory weekend work for two days in May. The position involves frequent use of warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and carts, handling parcels and pallets, and working around dry ice and cold rooms when required. Employees work closely with a small team and multiple internal departments in a structured, safety-conscious environment that supports manufacturing operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
