Job DescriptionEnvironmental Health and Safety Specialist
The EHS Specialist monitors work activities, identifies hazards, ensures compliance, and supports a safe, environmentally responsible workplace.
EHS Specialist Requirements:
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Basic math skills
- High School diploma or GED
- Pass a Security/background/drug screening. Ability to gain access to Shipyards
- Near and distance vision
- Possess a CA Drivers License
- OSHA 10 Hour Maritime/Shipyard Safety cert.
EHS Specialist Experience:
- Shipyard Experience as a shipyard safety technician/quality inspector.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard items
- Experience working aboard a Navy vessel
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Shipyard Employment
- Ability to understand work specifications, SDS and regulatory requirements
Physical Requirements:
- Climbing vertical and inclined ladders, accessing scaffolding and platforms. Working at heights and accessing confined or enclosed spaces
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct EHS inspections, identify hazards, and track corrective actions.
- Monitor shipyard and industrial operations for OSHA, NAVSEA, customer, and company compliance.
- Support incident investigations, environmental compliance, HAZMAT management, and required documentation.
- Assist with safety training, orientations, JHAs, AHAs, permits, and pre-job safety meetings.
- Promote safe work practices, proper PPE, and a strong safety culture across all work activities.
