THE OPPORTUNITY
A portfolio of AI-native and data-intensive startups is hiring backend engineers to build the reliable systems, data models and infrastructure behind rapidly scaling products.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Design and build resilient backend services, APIs, data models and asynchronous workflows.
- Own business-critical systems from architecture through deployment, monitoring and incident response.
- Improve performance, reliability, security and developer velocity as products scale.
- Build clean interfaces around complex data and third-party integrations.
- Partner with product and customer-facing teams to prioritise high-impact technical investments.
- Mentor engineers and help establish practical engineering standards.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Substantial production backend engineering experience with Python, Go, Java, Rust, Node.js or similar.
- Strong fundamentals in system design, databases, distributed systems and API development.
- Experience operating cloud-based services and diagnosing performance or reliability problems.
- Track record of owning complex projects with limited oversight.
- Pragmatic judgment, strong debugging skills and an ability to communicate trade-offs clearly.
PREFERRED BUT NOT ESSENTIAL
- PostgreSQL, event-driven architecture, queues or workflow orchestration.
- AI/ML platform, LLM infrastructure or high-volume data-processing experience.
- AWS, GCP or Azure; Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code exposure.
