Part-Time Bookkeeper

Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce

Position Overview

The Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and organized Part-Time Bookkeeper to support the Chamber’s financial operations.

The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, performing reconciliations, and ensuring financial documentation is complete and organized.

The ideal candidate is a trustworthy and detail-oriented professional with bookkeeping experience who can work independently while collaborating with Chamber leadership and staff to support the organization’s financial needs.

Position Details

Position Title: Part-Time Bookkeeper
Organization: Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce
Reports To: President & CEO
Employment Type: Part-Time
Location: Chula Vista, California
Compensation: $30.00 per hour
Estimated Schedule: Approximately 20-25 hours per week, based on organizational needs

Essential Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Financial Recordkeeping

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Record financial transactions, including deposits, payments, expenses, and adjustments.
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Maintain organized financial files and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes.
  • Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and properly documented.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

  • Process vendor invoices and prepare payment documentation.
  • Maintain accurate accounts payable records.
  • Prepare and send invoices to Chamber members for membership dues, renewals, sponsorships, events, and other applicable charges.
  • Maintain accurate member billing records and payment tracking.
  • Monitor incoming payments, including membership dues, sponsorships, events, and other revenue sources.
  • Assist with member account reconciliation and follow-up on outstanding balances.
  • Support timely collection of outstanding receivables while maintaining positive member relationships and providing professional, responsive communication.

Financial Support & Reporting

  • Assist with preparation of financial reports and summaries.
  • Provide bookkeeping information needed for internal financial reviews.
  • Support budget tracking and expense reporting.
  • Assist with preparation of financial documentation for audits, grants, and organizational reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records to support financial transparency and accountability.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain confidentiality of financial, membership, vendor, and organizational information.
  • Organize and maintain financial records and documentation.
  • Assist with special financial projects as needed.
  • Communicate professionally with vendors, staff, and organizational partners.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliation.
  • Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, chambers of commerce, associations, or membership-based organizations.
  • Experience supporting audits, grants, or restricted funding.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit financial practices.

Work Environment

This is a part-time position supporting the financial operations of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce.

The Bookkeeper may perform duties at the Chamber office and may have flexibility for remote work as appropriate. The position requires communication and coordination with Chamber leadership to ensure timely and accurate financial recordkeeping.

Compensation

The Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce will compensate the selected candidate at:

$30.00 per hour

This is a part-time position anticipated to require approximately 15–20 hours per week, depending on organizational needs.

This position is not eligible for employee benefits.
